Preview – Austria vs Croatia, June 8 2008

I have no comments on this match.. a straight forward victory for Croatia. To be frank, I have no idea about any of the Austrian players and I expect the likes of Luka Modric to run through the Austrian defence. Watch out for him in this match, while I study the other Croatian players to see if there’s another golden boot possibility!

Bilic is very confident about his players and I’ve heard he doesn’t speak for the heck of it. This is one team that has not been tagged favorites by many, but a dark horse, nevertheless.

Fans in Vienna will be in for a rough time.

Key Players:

Austria – I haven’t heard of one guy in this line up before!

Croatia –Kranjcar, Modric, Bilic!

Prediction:

2 – 0 to Croatia!

Austria vs Croatia First half review, June 8 2008

The small man Luka Modric seems all set to prove a point and reminds me of Messi in some aspects. Very focused and very dedicated to the immediate task at hand, that was a good pass to Olic in the first 2 minutes and Oh, olic knows when to roll…

Modric takes the Penalty and GOAL!!!

13’ : Olic lungs forward but it’s not good enough to reach the ball…

14’ : Good cross from Kranjcar.. leading to two back passes, one forward and a corner…

15’ Corner: Austrian Defence worked in set pieces, Olic looked funny, and the ball was cleared.

The Guy with the jersey number 12 / funny hair do from Austria is doing agood job , and he’ll be walking on four legs soon, given the pressure put on him by the Croatian Squad. Darijo Srna of Croatia is a good pick for the wing and he’s giving the opponents some moments to remember. And oh, there was this attempt from the .. er.. centre line, was it? And quite a good one, since the rest of Austria never gets anywhere close to the Croatian keeper.

21’ : Foul and second yellow for the host. Free kick taken and loads of confusion around, with everyone falling on the ground. Referee stops play as Kranjcar’s face found the Austrain keepers’ knee instead of the ball.

24’: Croatian Keeper would have shouted,,,”I touched the ball, I touched the ball! ”He gets to feel the ball, for a change.

Pranjic (I think ) sends one to the crowd. Olic reminds me more of the Welsh player, Bellamy.

27’: Free kick to Austria. More of a corner. Good try, hosts. But the goal’s a few yards away from where you think it is.

29’: Olic is manhandled, and Olic does some extra acting too, and the free kick is there , few yards from the goal post. Linz blocks the kick and sends the ball into the crowd.

30’: free kick to Austria near the centre line.

31’: Petric miscalculates the bounce and misses the ball, otherwise would have been another goal attempt.

32’: Ivanschitz takes the corner for Austria and the number 6 jersey Austrian uses his head where his feet should have come in.

35’ : I think Petric could have stopped the ball, thought for a second which side of the net he wanted to put it in and shot, with the Austrian defenders nowhere in the vicinity. But he sends it to the crowd.

36’ : The commentator gets reminded of Eduardo’s injury and feels he should have made a difference, whenever he sees Petric, or is it just a coincidence that Petric comes on screen everytime we hear about Eduardo?

38’ : Some frenzied moments and superb control of the ball by Olic, but passed it straight to a defender, instead of finding Niko Kovac.

40’: Jersey 20 Austria… watch out for him..Almost made it 1-1. Reality Check for Croatia. Confidence booster for Austria. Bilic looks nervous.

Corluka (man city & croatia) is down, and Bilic sends some messages into the field.

44’ : Croatian defenders still haven’t learnt their lesson and are still slightly lethargic at times. Watch out guys…

45’ : Brilliant minute for Austria, and the crowd shouts some support to motivate their 11 representatives on the field.

45’ +1: The commentator just got this stats out that Olic has 9 goals in 54 appearences. I wonder…

Halftime. Croatia 1 – 0 Austria. The crowd feels the hosts will come back bigger and better in the second half as the two teams are cheered off the field. I am sleepy. Second half in my dreams I suppose. The German Army will start their Euro conquest in another 2 hours and I’d better catch some sleep before that! Better luck in the second half, Austria. I hope the Croatian defence learns a thing or two today. Or it’s going to be a German Massacre ahead for them..

Ha ha… the ESPN score predictor shows 2 – 0 to Croatia (39%) while that’s what I said few days back! Come on man, where’s my prize????
